D Cipher
A downloadable game for Windows
Made in a week for the Very Serious Juniper Dev Game Jam!
You are a detective tasked with trying to take down a criminal organization known as the "Disc Jockeys." You have successfully snuck in to the back rooms of an underground concert which they use as a front to sell nefarious goods. It's up to you to D Cipher how they communicate with each other so secretively... Perhaps it has something to do with this cassette tape deck...
The initial idea was to incorporate a vinyl which is used to solve puzzles but quickly realized that something like a cassette (which still spins, mind you) would be easier to create! But don't fret, there are still more chances to get your hands dirty and spin spin SPIN until your heart is content.
This would have been a web game, but we figured out far too late that WebGL does not support negative pitch values (which is what we used to have the audio go in reverse) so we had to make the game a downloadable. Sorry about that, folks. Now you can watch the download icon SPIIIIIIN!!!
-NOTE ON AI USAGE-
For this game we used a pre-existing event-focused code base created by our professor last semester. It was partially created in conjunction with Claude Code to help scripts work with one another and keep everything organized and easy to understand for his students. It is what we used to create our first games last semester and so we were quite familiar with it, hence we decided to use it on this project (which is only our second game). This is the only place that AI was used. We still had to figure out how all of these event systems work together and how we can create complex logic with them.
All other assets including models, textures, music, and sounds were hand-crafted or royalty free.
